2012 Amsterdam Six Day

The 6-Days Season starts in Velodrome Sloten in Amsterdam on Monday 15th October. It will be the 20th 6-Days of Amsterdam and the 12th in Sloten since the re-start in 2001.

UIV 2012 Amsterdam Six Day - Day Six


20th October 2012: It was an action packed final night in Amsterdam as the top four team did battle for victory. At the end it was Michael Morkov of Denmark and Pim Ligthart of the Netherlands who took the win thanks to their huge points total.

The race in Amsterdam was a farewell to the Dutch rider Jos Pronk, who ended a nice and good career. Also for the legendary pacemarker Joop Zijlaard it was the last race in Amsterdam, but we will see him again in Ghent, before he definitively stops in Rotterdam in January.

18th October 2012: Iljo Keisse and Niki Terpstra took the lead of the 2012 Amsterdam Six Day on Day Four after they lapped the field to move one lap in front of previous leaders Wim Stroetinga and Peter Schep.

Keisse and Terpstra will keen to add to their points total of 165 pts in addition to retaining their one lap advantage as the second, third and fourth placed teams all have more points and are ready to pounce.

UIV 2012 Amsterdam Six Day - Day Three


17th October 2012: Day Three of the 2012 Amsterdam Six Day saw Wim Stroetinga and Peter Schep take the lead with an eleven point cushion over previous leaders Michael Morkov and Pim Ligthart. The Dutch duo delighted their home crowd with a commanding performance that saw them dominate the third night as the two four teams moved onto the same lap.

Iljo Keisse and Niki Terpstea are third on 126pts and remain a dangerous threat to the top two teams, with another Dutch pairing of Yoeri Havik and Nick Stopler fourth on 106pts.

16th October 2012: Michael Morkov and Pim Ligthart retained their lead on the second night of the Six Days of Amsterdam. The Dane and the Dutchman held off Kenny de Ketele and Gijs Van Hoecke who made great progress in the points totals, however Morkov and Ligthart are still one lap ahead of the other teams.

Iljo Keisse and Niki Terpsta are third, a lap behind the Danish-Dutch duo but with a much lower points total. The two Omega Pharma - QuickStep riders have 86, while Morkov/Ligthart and De Ketele/Van Hoecke have 108 and 105 respectively, making the remaining nights very exciting.

UIV 2012 Amsterdam Six Day - Day One


15th October 2012: Michael Morkov and Pim Ligthart can look back on a great first day of the Six Days of Amsterdam. The Danish / Dutch duo gained 63 points to lead the overall standings. Wim Stroetinga and Peter Schep occupy second place with 55 points. Iljo Keisse and Niki Terpstra follow in third place with a total of 51. All three pairs and fourth placed Robert Bartko and Jens Mouris (31 points) are one lap ahead of the other teams.

Morkov and Ligthart's consistency in the other events consolidated their lead ensuring them retained their position until the end of Day One. This is a quite an achievement when you consider the fact that Ligthart was in China last week riding in the Tour of Beijing. The Vacansoleil-DCM rider started the race straight from his twenty hour flight.
