2014 Berlin Six Day

2014 Berlin Six Day

The 2014 Berlin Six Day will take place from the 23rd to 28th January 2014 in Berlin, Germany.

--------------------------------------------------------------

2014 Berlin Six Day - Day Six

Lampater – De Buyst close to the victory”. So we wrote on this site yesterday, but in the end the 103rd 6-Days of Berlin was won by Kenny de Ketele and Andreas Müller.

Everything was as expected decided in the last hour in the KIA-Jagd. Right from the beginning, the two teams Bartko – Reinhardt and De Ketele – Müller in a joint effort put the leading team under pressure.

Bartko – Reinhardt was the first to attack, but both Lampater – De Buyst and De Ketele – Müller made even with them. And in the end of the race De Ketele – Müller launched the final attack, which the leaders during the first five days of this race, Lampater – De Buyst, didn’t have the necessary force to answer on.

2014 Berlin Six Day

For 34 years old Andreas Müller, today an Austrian citizen but born in Berlin, where he had his cycling-education, it was the first 6-Days victory in his career. “It is sure the greatest victory and the one, who has been given me the greatest pleasure”, he said after the race.

Around 75.000 people attended to this year’s “Berliner Sechstagerennen” who was again a tremendous success with the well-known mixture of sport and show, tradition and future.

Finals Standings - Main Competition
1 Kenny de Ketele (BEL) – Andreas Müller (AUT), 250 p.,

At One Lap
2 Leif Lampater (GER) – Jasper de Buyst (BEL), 308 p.,
3 Robert Bartko – Theo Reinhardt (GER), 236 p.,

At Two Laps
4 Vivien Brisse (FRA) – Christian Grasmann (GER), 211 p.,
5 Yoeri Havik (NED) – Vojtech Hacecky (CZE), 210 p.,

At Eleven Laps
6 Tristan Marguet (SUI) – Maximilian Beyer (GER), 143 p.,
7 Henning Bommel – Kersten Thiele (GER), 128 p.,

At Fifteen Laps
8 Marcel Barth – Nico Heβlich (GER), 72 p.,

At Eighteen Laps
9 Franco Marvulli (SUI) – Luke Roberts (AUS), 63 p.,
10 Jesper Mørkøv (DEN) – Pascal Ackermann (GER), 61 p.,

At Twenty-Four Laps

At Twenty-Five Laps
14 Martin Blaha – Martin Hacecky (CZE), 27 p.,

At Twenty-Seven Laps
15 Niki Byrgesen – Mads Christensen (DEN), 10 p.

DNF: David Muntaner – Albert Torres (ESP).

European Champion Mario Birrer with pacer Helmut Baur won the final stage of the “Esso Weltpokal der Steher” and thus secured his final victory. The team Fernow/Bäuerlein came in second and Robert Retschke with Karsten Podlesch third.

As foreseen the “Wolfram Champions Sprint” ended up in a final match between Robert Förstemann and Maximilian Levy, the two great stars of this competition. Millimeters decided that Förstemann was first on the finishing line in the final match and thus overall winner with just one point! Third overall was Erik Balzer.

--------------------------------------------------------------

2014 Berlin Six Day - Day Five

During the first five days of the 6-Days in Berlin, Leif Lampater and Jasper de Buyst have been the constant leaders. If not a sensation (because they are really a strong team!) it is after all not so often you see that in the 6-Days. And now it would in fact be a bit of a sensation, which they are not the winners after tonight’s final in the Velodrome in Landsberger Allé.

With just passing the 200 points their closest rivals, De Ketele – Müller, got a bonus-lap at the end of the day yesterday, so they are before the finale equal with Lampater – De buyst, but the leading duo has an advantage of 53 points!

2014 Berlin Six Day

German veteran Robert Bartko can still hope for 3rd place overall in what will be his last race in Berlin and in Germany. He definitively ends his splendid career in Copenhagen next week. For Franco Marvulli it is already over when the race ends tonight. He is not racing in Copenhagen, and already Monday evening he had his official farewell-ceremony. He and partner Roberts has been able to move a little bit upwards in the overall the last couple of days.

Sad news from Berlin: The Spanish rider David Muntaner had a crash already on the second day in Berlin, and it has turned out that he has a broken jawbone, which must be operated.

Therefore he will not be on the track for the final tonight, even when the team Muntaner – Torres still is in the overall after 11th day.

Overall Standings - Main Competition
1 Leif Lampater (GER) – Jasper de Buyst (BEL), 253 p.,
2 Kenny de Ketele (BEL) – Andreas Müller (AUT), 200 p.,

At One Lap
3 Robert Bartko – Theo Reinhardt (GER), 186 p.,
4 Yoeri Havik (NED) – Vojtech Hacecky (CZE), 168 p.,
5 Vivien Brisse (FRA) – Christian Grasmann (GER), 167 p.,

At Eight Laps
6 Tristan Marguet (SUI) – Maximilian Beyer (GER), 121 p.,
7 Henning Bommel – Kersten Thiele (GER), 96 p.,

At Ten Laps
8 Marcel Barth – Nico Heβlich (GER), 59 p.,

At Sixteen Laps
9 Franco Marvulli (SUI) – Luke Roberts (AUS), 49 p.,
10 Jesper Mørkøv (DEN) – Pascal Ackermann (GER), 48 p.,

At Seventeen Laps
11 David Muntaner – Albert Torres (ESP), 94 p.,
12 Sebastian Wotschke – Hans Pirius (GER), 83 p.,
13 Tino Thömel – Nils Schomber (GER), 49 p.,

At Twenty Laps
14 Guy East – Daniel Holloway (USA), 43 p.,

At Twenty-One Laps
15 Martin Blaha – Martin Hacecky (CZE), 24 p.,

At Twenty-Three Laps
16 Niki Byrgesen – Mads Christensen (DEN), 10 p.

Florian Fernow won the 5th stage of the “Esso Weltpokal der Steher” and took over leading position in the overall. But four riders are very equal on points before the final tonight: The team Fernow/Bäuerlein leads with 13 points, second Birrer/Baur with 14 points and third and fourth Retschke/K. Podlesch and Kos/Kos both with 15 points.

The “Wolfram Champions Sprint” will for sure be a match between Robert Förstemann and Maximilian Levy, both with 72 points in the overall, far ahead of Erik Balzer on third place with 53 points.

--------------------------------------------------------------

2014 Berlin Six Day - Day Four

During the Sunday’s “Family-Program” Leif Lampater – Christian Grasmann managed as the first team in this race to pass the 200 points and thus gain their second bonus-lap, which means that they are again a step ahead of their closest rivals.

2014 Berlin Six Day

But “the closest rivals” are now cut down to just one team: Kenny de Ketele – Andreas Müller! Bartko – Reinhardt, Havik – Hacecky and Brisse – Grasmann are after the fourth day all two laps behind in the overall.

Normally that in a 6-Days means that you are “out” of the fight for the final victory. But let’s see what happens during the last two days…

Overall Standings - Main Competition
1 Leif Lampater (GER) – Jasper de Buyst (BEL), 211 p.,

At One Lap
2 Kenny de Ketele (BEL) – Andreas Müller (AUT), 162 p.,

At Two Laps
3 Robert Bartko – Theo Reinhardt (GER), 139 p.,
4 Yoeri Havik (NED) – Vojtech Hacecky (CZE), 137 p.,
5 Vivien Brisse (FRA) – Christian Grasmann (GER), 123 p.,

At Seven Laps
6 Tristan Marguet (SUI) – Maximilian Beyer (GER), 110 p.,
7 Henning Bommel – Kersten Thiele (GER), 79 p.,

At Eight Laps
8 Marcel Barth – Nico Heβlich (GER), 53 p.,

At Nine Laps
9 DaviFourteen Laps
10 Sebastian Wotschke – Hans Pirius (GER), 67 p.,
11 Jesper Mørkøv (DEN) – Pascal Ackermann (GER), 36 p.,

At Fifteen Laps
12 Tino Thömel – Nils Schomber (GER), 36 p.,
13 Franco Marvulli (SUI) – Luke Roberts (AUS), 26 p.,

At Seventeen Laps
14 Guy East – Daniel Holloway (USA), 30 p.,
15 Martin Blaha – Martin Hacecky (CZE), 23 p.,

At Nineteen Laps
16 Niki Byrgesen – Mads Christensen (DEN), 2 p.

Patrick Kos, behind the motor of his farther René, won the 4th stage of the “Esso Weltpokal der Steher”, but European Champion Mario Birrer defended his leading position in the overall.

Second and third after Kos in today’s classification were surprisingly Frenchman Benoît Daeninck and the flamboyant boy from United States of America, Zachary Kovalcik.

In the “Wolfram Champions Sprint” Förstemann with 59 points leads with 3 points down to 2nd Maximilian Levy with 56 p. Erik Balzer on third place has 45 points.

The UIV Talents Cup in Berlin ended up with the foreseen victory for the Dutch team Melvin van Zijl – Didier Caspers. The Danish team Elias Helleskov Busk and Mathias Krigbaum on the final stage managed to move up to 2nd place overall, but 25 points behind the winners. Third place went to Germans Achim Burkart – Nils Pollit.

When the Copenhagen 6-Days starts on Thursday, Van Zijl – Caspers will be participating with the Pro-Elite, and so will also 19-years old Junior World Champion in Madison (Glasgow 2013) Mathias Krigbaum.

Final Standings - UIV Talents Cup
1 Melvin van Zijl – Didier Caspers (NED), 125 p.,
2 Elias Helleskov Busk – Mathias Krigbaum (DEN), 88 p.,
3 Achim Burkart – Nils Politt (GER), 85 p.

--------------------------------------------------------------

2014 Berlin Six Day - Day One

24th January 2014: The winners from Ghent, Leif Lampater and Jasper de Buyst seems like one of the very best bets for a top-place in the 103 Sixdays in Berlin.

Already at the opening evening in front of 12.500 spectators they showed their ambitions by winning the first Madison, with Bartko – Reinhardt and De Ketele – Müller in the same lap.

2014 Berlin Six Day

In the big KIA Madison they defended their leading position. Seven teams ended on zero, with Brisse – Grasmann as the winners.

No big surprises the first evening, except 15th place four laps down for a team like Marvulli – Roberts…

Overall Standings - Main Competition
