UCI Track Cycling World Cup Series
Round Two - London, England

London, England

The 2014/2015 UCI Track Cycling World Cup Series continues with Round Two in England at the London Olympic Velodrome.

The 250-metre track, which was completed in 2011 in the British capital, is preparing for another enthralling chapter in its short history. With seven gold medals (out of a possible 10), British Cycling was literally flying at the 2012 Olympic Games. This weekend the context will be different but the excitement expected to be just as high.

After Guadalajara, the UCI Track Cycling World Cup moves back to Europe where most of the reigning UCI World Champions will be taking part. France’s François Pervis, the first man ever to win the individual sprint, keirin and kilometre at the same World Championships, will be looking to confirm on British soil, and fans could well be treated to a rerun of the Olympics’ France-Great Britain duel in the individual sprint: in 2012 it was Great Britain’s Jason Kenny who beat France’s Grégory Baugé to take the Olympic title.

In the team sprint, the New Zealand World Champions Ethan Michell, Sam Webster and Edward Dawkins will be the ones to watch.

2014 World Champion in the women’s team sprint, individual sprint and keirin, Germany’s Kristina Vogel was in Guadalajara but did not start. She will be looking for revenge in London.

In the women’s team pursuit, British Cycling boasts the World Champions and world record-holders Laura Trott, Katie Archibald, Elinor Barker and Joanna Rowsell (also individual World Champion). The home crowd will have great expectations.

Crowned World Champion in the Omnium in Cali at the beginning of the year, 20-year-old French athlete Thomas Boudat will make his début in the Team Europcar colours, which has formed a track team this season.
